The current age of the world began when a disfigured, lowly god showed more courage than a wealthy aristocrat by leaping into a divine fire.
When the gods gathered at the ancient city of Teotihuacan to create the Fifth Sun, they built a massive sacrificial pyre. A wealthy, arrogant god named Tecuciztecatl stepped forward to jump in first, but he recoiled four times from the intense heat. Seeing his hesitation, the humble, boil-covered god Nanahuatl stepped up and threw himself into the flames without a second thought.
