Japan’s most famous folk hero began his journey as a giant piece of fruit floating down a river toward an elderly, childless couple.
Momotaro, or 'Peach Boy,' is a cornerstone of Japanese folklore. According to the tale, an old woman washing clothes in a river spotted a massive peach and brought it home to her husband. When they tried to cut it open, a baby boy stepped out. He grew up to be a paragon of strength and virtue, eventually traveling to the 'Island of Ogres' to stop a band of demons from terrorizing the countryside.
