Hair follicles are the only organs in the human body that can completely regenerate themselves multiple times throughout an individual's adult life.

Every hair follicle on the scalp undergoes a continuous cycle of growth (anagen), regression (catagen), and rest (telogen). During the transition between these phases, the follicle essentially destroys itself and then regrows from a reservoir of stem cells located in a region called the 'bulge.'
