The human liver can regrow to its full size from just a quarter of its mass

The human liver is the only organ capable of complete regeneration, possessing the ability to regrow to its full original mass from as little as 25% of its tissue.

When a portion of the liver is removed, the remaining hepatocytes enter a rapid state of proliferation triggered by specific cytokines like IL-6 and TNF-α. This regenerative process is so efficient that the liver can restore its original volume and functional capacity within just a few weeks of a major resection.
