The concept of a world-egg appears independently in creation stories across three continents

The concept of a 'world-egg' or cosmic egg is a recurring archetypal motif found in the creation myths of diverse cultures across Europe, Asia, and Africa.

The 'omne vivum ex ovo'—all life from an egg—motif appears independently in the Orphic traditions of Greece, the Vedic 'Hiranyagarbha' of India, and the 'Kalevala' of Finland. In these narratives, the universe begins as a self-contained sphere that eventually cracks open to release a primordial deity or to form the sky and earth from its two halves. The Orphic Phanes, for example, emerged from an egg to bring light to the universe.
