The largest land animals used bird-like air sacs to lighten their skeletons

Titanosaurs, the largest land animals in history, maintained their massive 70-tonne frames by utilizing bird-like air sacs to significantly lighten their skeletal weight.

Argentinosaurus and other titanosaurs reached weights of 73 tonnes and lengths of 40 meters, making them the largest terrestrial animals to ever walk the Earth. To move such incredible mass without collapsing, these Cretaceous giants evolved hollow bones filled with air sacs, a weight-saving feature shared by modern birds. This internal 'honeycomb' structure provided structural integrity while reducing the overall density of their massive skeletons.
