A portable magnetic trap can transport antimatter across cities without it touching matter

Scientists have developed a specialized magnetic trap that allows antimatter to travel by truck, keeping these volatile particles suspended in a vacuum to prevent them from touching regular matter and instantly annihilating.

Antimatter is so volatile that it annihilates upon contact with any physical surface, releasing energy equivalent to twice its mass. To study it outside of specialized labs, researchers at CERN developed a portable Penning trap that uses superconducting magnets cooled to -269 degrees Celsius. This device suspends 92 antiprotons in a vacuum, preventing them from touching the container walls during transport.
