In 1912, several revolutionary groups united to form China's first major political party

Following the collapse of the Qing Dynasty, several revolutionary groups merged in Beijing to form the Kuomintang, a political party that would dominate Chinese history for decades to come.

On August 25, 1912, Sun Yat-sen and his allies founded the Kuomintang, or Nationalist Party, to transform China into a modern republic. This merger unified various underground revolutionary factions into a single political force shortly after the Xinhai Revolution ended imperial rule. The party's foundation was built on the 'Three Principles of the People': nationalism, democracy, and social welfare.
