In a daring and tragic 1985 operation, Salvadoran rebels used military disguises to infiltrate a popular nightlife district, launching an attack that drew the United States deeper into the Salvadoran Civil War.

During the height of the Salvadoran Civil War in 1985, guerillas from the PRTC dressed in government army uniforms to blend into the Zona Rosa entertainment district. They opened fire on outdoor cafes, specifically targeting U.S. Marines who were dining off-duty. The attack killed 13 people, including four Marines and two American businessmen.
