Genghis Khan led his Mongol riders to a decisive victory in 1215 by capturing Zhongdu, the heavily fortified capital of the Jin dynasty. The city was protected by forty foot walls and a complex moat system, but the Mongols used a devastating siege to starve the defenders into submission.
