Trapped against the sea by advancing German forces, over 300,000 Allied soldiers were saved by a desperate makeshift fleet of naval destroyers and civilian 'little ships' in a miracle of modern warfare.

In late May 1940, the British Expeditionary Force faced total annihilation at the French port of Dunkirk. Operation Dynamo was launched as a last-ditch effort to evacuate the stranded troops across the English Channel.
