On April 19, 1943, the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising began as hundreds of young Jewish fighters launched a surprise attack against Nazi troops. Armed with only a few pistols, homemade grenades, and stolen rifles, these men and women chose to die fighting rather than surrender to the death camps.
