In an incredible display of tactical bluffing during the 1799 Napoleonic campaign, a small French division held off an Ottoman army ten times its size at the foot of Mount Tabor.
During the French Revolutionary Wars, General Jean-Baptiste Kléber found his 2,500 soldiers surrounded by an Ottoman force of 25,000. Kléber formed his men into impenetrable infantry squares, holding the line for hours under grueling heat and constant cavalry charges.
