Mount Chimborazo is Earth's farthest point from the core
Due to Earth's equatorial bulge, Ecuador's Mount Chimborazo is the farthest point from our planet's core, surpassing even Mount Everest in this unique distinction.
Surprisingly, Ecuador's Mount Chimborazo, not Mount Everest, holds the title for being Earth's farthest point from the planet's center. This is because our Earth bulges at the equator, making locations there naturally more distant from the core. Chimborazo, a dormant volcano, sits near the equator and reaches approximately 6,384 kilometers from the core. In contrast, Everest, though taller above sea level, is only about 6,382 kilometers away. This unique position aids space travel, as equatorial launch sites benefit from the extra distance and rotational speed.
