The 1991 assassination of Enrique Bermúdez in a hotel parking lot silenced the top military commander of the Contras and left a lasting mystery in the heart of Nicaragua.

In February 1991, Enrique Bermúdez, the founder and top commander of the Nicaraguan Resistance, was shot and killed outside a hotel in Managua. As a former colonel in the National Guard, Bermúdez had led the CIA-backed 'Contras' during a decade of civil war against the Sandinista government.
