On February 13, 2001, exactly one month after a deadly tremor had already killed hundreds, a 6.6 magnitude earthquake struck central El Salvador. This second quake triggered massive landslides and destroyed thousands of homes that had been weakened by the previous month's activity. At least 315 people lost their lives in this follow-up disaster.
