Pakistan observes a national holiday today to support the people of Kashmir
Pakistan observes a public holiday every February 5th to express political and moral support for the Kashmiri people's right to self-determination in the long-disputed border region.
Kashmir Solidarity Day was first proposed in 1990 as a way for Pakistan to voice support for those living in the Indian-administered portion of the Kashmir valley. The region has been a flashpoint of conflict since the 1947 partition of British India. This day is marked by public processions, seminars, and a symbolic human chain formed at the bridge connecting Pakistan-administered Kashmir to the rest of the country.
