A grueling nine-month siege at Fort Zeelandia ended in 1662, signaling the collapse of Dutch colonial power in Taiwan and the rise of Ming loyalist leader Zheng Chenggong as a legendary figure.

In 1661, the Ming loyalist Zheng Chenggong, also known as Koxinga, led a massive fleet to challenge the Dutch East India Company's stronghold on Taiwan. After a desperate nine-month blockade, the Dutch surrendered Fort Zeelandia on February 1, 1662. This victory effectively ended 38 years of Dutch rule on the island.
