The 1792 Treaty of Jassy ended years of brutal conflict between two empires, handing Catherine the Great a strategic prize that would define Russian maritime power for centuries to come.

Signed on January 9, 1792, the Treaty of Jassy concluded the Russo-Turkish War and recognized Russia's annexation of the Crimean Khanate. By shifting the border to the Dniester River, the Russian Empire gained control over the entire northern coast of the Black Sea.
