A border between two countries splits a single library in half
The Haskell Free Library and Opera House sits directly on the international border between the United States and Canada, allowing patrons from both nations to browse the same bookshelves without passing through customs.
Located between Derby Line, Vermont, and Stanstead, Quebec, this unique 1904 building features a thick black line painted across its floor to mark the international boundary. While the front door is in the United States, most of the library books and the entire opera house stage are technically in Canada.
