Lesotho holds the rare distinction of being an enclave, a sovereign nation completely encircled by the territory of South Africa and perched high within the Maloti Mountains.
Lesotho is one of only three countries in the world entirely surrounded by another nation. Known as the Kingdom in the Sky, it is the only independent state on Earth that lies entirely above 1,000 meters in elevation.
