Researchers have demonstrated that pigeons possess the remarkable cognitive ability to categorize complex visual art styles, successfully distinguishing between the cubist works of Picasso and the impressionist paintings of Monet.
In a famous 1995 study at Keio University, pigeons were trained using food rewards to identify paintings by specific artists. The birds successfully distinguished between the sharp, geometric lines of Pablo Picasso and the soft, dappled brushstrokes of Claude Monet.
