Scientists trapped a virus-sized cluster of atoms in two places at once

Physicists have successfully placed a massive molecule containing 2,000 atoms into a quantum state of superposition, proving that even large, complex objects can exist in two locations simultaneously.

Researchers in Vienna recently demonstrated quantum superposition using giant molecules roughly the size of a small virus. By launching these heavy clusters of atoms through a specialized interferometer, the team proved that matter can behave like a wave, existing in multiple places at once until measured.
