A 125-million-year-old dinosaur was found with mysterious hollow spikes on its skin
The discovery of Psittacosaurus fossils in China has revealed unusual, long, hollow bristles on the dinosaur’s tail that challenge our traditional understanding of prehistoric skin and feather evolution.
A beautifully preserved Psittacosaurus specimen from the Early Cretaceous period features a row of stiff, tubular bristles along the top of its tail. These structures were roughly six inches long and surprisingly hollow, resembling the quills of a porcupine rather than modern feathers.
