Before age 10, children's clearer eye lenses may allow them to perceive ultraviolet light, a unique ability that fades as protective filtering develops.

Unlike adults, whose eye lenses block most UV, children under 10 have clearer lenses that let some UV wavelengths (300-400 nanometers) reach the retina.
