Our universe might have eleven dimensions

M-theory proposes our universe has eleven dimensions, with seven hidden ones curled up at minuscule scales, potentially unifying physics' greatest mysteries.

Imagine our universe having more than just three spatial dimensions and one of time. M-theory, a leading idea in physics, suggests there are actually eleven dimensions! Seven of these extra dimensions are believed to be incredibly tiny, curled up at scales far smaller than an atom, making them undetectable with current technology. This concept, developed by physicist Edward Witten in the 1990s, helps unify different versions of string theory.
