Coca-Cola was originally green and contained cocaine
Coca-Cola initially had a greenish hue and contained cocaine, marketed as medicine before evolving into the global beverage giant we know today.
Before its iconic brown color, early Coca-Cola had a greenish tint. More surprisingly, from 1886 to 1903, each serving contained about 9 milligrams of cocaine, derived from coca leaf extract. Inventor John Pemberton marketed it as a patent medicine for headaches and fatigue. The name 'Coca-Cola' still references these original ingredients: coca leaves and kola nuts for caffeine.
