Seals hunt fish using their whiskers

Seals use their incredibly sensitive whiskers to detect the faint water trails left by swimming fish, allowing them to hunt effectively in dark or murky waters.

Seals have amazing whiskers, called vibrissae, that act like super-sensitive underwater radar. These unique whiskers are shaped to cut through water easily while detecting the tiniest movements. When a fish swims, it leaves a swirling trail, or wake, which seals can feel with their whiskers, even in total darkness or murky water.
